Royal Designs Granite Countertops is dedicated to helping you design your space with the perfect balance of beauty and functionality. We’ve put together this list of tips that will help you in thinking through the design of your space.

Cabinet color
Since this is the closest surface to countertop, they have to “tango”! For a darker color cabinet try to contrast with a lighter color counter or the reverse. You can also use a blending technique, where the cabinet can be a light brown and the counter a darker brown.

Floor color
When it comes to matching your counter to your floor, it should be coordinated to function as a total assembly of colors that flow together rather than simply matching them. If you shop around for slabs, it is helpful for you to bring a sample of your floor tile. When you walk in a house, the floor will likely be the first thing that you will observe. It is the “path” of the house and it should look impressive. When people entertain guests, it is common for them to congregate in the kitchen rather than the formal dining room. Normally the beauty of the floor should not rival that of the countertop, but if you have a busy floor or you plan to install a design that is active try to have a countertop that tones down the mood but compliments the floor.

Wall color
You will be very surprised to find out that altering the paint of the walls of your kitchen can make certain colors go together, as the walls cover a very large surface of the house, and they could be used as the mood setters.

When designing a kitchen, a large but often forgotten consideration is the lighting. Most of your kitchen should be well lit even if it is near a window. You want your kitchen to be bright, even in the evening or on cloudy days. Installing can-lights in the ceiling will make you kitchen look amazing. Also look into installing lights underneath the wall cabinets. It will improve the overall aspect of the kitchen. The reflection of light can really set your kitchen apart from the rest.

Backsplashes are a popular feature in modern design. There are a few options to consider when choosing one. Your options range from a standard 4 to 6 inch backspash to a full backsplash which spans from the counter all the way to the bottom of the wall cabinets. Another alternative is a tile backsplash with inserts, which look great but are unpractical when it comes to cleaning them. If you cook a lot at home, you will find that scrubbing the tile in the back of the range will be a time consuming task. If this is an issue, you might consider a full granite backsplash. Further options include a glass panel or a combination of glass and metal, which look rich but are also practical to clean.

Stone maintanance
Natural stones are porous by nature. In order to achieve impermeability, all natural stones have to be sealed or treated. It is recommended to seal you counter area every six months. If you use your kitchen heavily, sealing it more often is suggested.
The process is very simple:
1. Clean countertop with natural stone cleaner (or dish washer soap/hand soap with water)
2. Place sealer on “wet” cloth and rub in a circular motion
3. With a “dry” cloth clean the surface of extra sealer
4. Let it dry for a few hours
Things to avoid: Do not use high acidity substances on your natural stone surfaces. They do not damage the stone but they peel off the sealer leaving your stone unprotected and susceptible to staining. (Acid substances: bathroom cleaners, grout cleaners, tub)

Manufacturing process
The production of natural stone countertops consists of 4 steps:
1. Estimating – Consists of the original measurements and quote.
2. Template – The actual measurements of your counter area which will be used in manufacturing
3. Manufacturing – Delivery of slabs to our location (in case the slabs are not in our stock) – Detailed inspection of the slabs for quality – Cutting of the slabs to templates – Lamination of edges – Edge profiling & Polishing – Sink manufacturing – Quality control check of the finished product
4. Installation – Installation of stone countertops in your kitchen – Installation of under mount sink – Cutting of cook top – Installation of backsplashes – Drilling of faucet holes – Sealing of stone
